Re: If I obtain a Dutch passport, can my wife work in NL?

Thanks for the reply.

It must be a fairly lengthy process to get the passport then!

I'm in a career transition and going back to school in the fall to take web development. Would studying be considered exercising my EU treaty rights?

If I obtain a Dutch passport, can my wife work in NL?

My father (Canadian) was born in The Netherlands. If he obtains his Dutch passport, will I (CAN/UK) likely be able to obtain mine as well? If successful in obtaining my Dutch passport, what are the requirements for bringing my wife (Canadian) and son (CAN/UK) there to live and work?

Re: Youth Mobility alternative

Since I don't currently live in the UK, I wouldn't meet the financial requirements to sponsor her. SS is your best & probably only bet then and you're on it. As you may have heard, there are weird things happening in Ireland (& UK) vis a vis free movement; (eg sounds of goalposts moving); if need ...

Re: Youth Mobility alternative

Does she have UK ancestry ? She does not. French Canadian ancestry though and through. However, as a Canadian, she has given her oath to the Queen! Too bad that doesn't count as anything. Presumably that's what made her Canadian - there is no 'British Empire' anymore. Have you looked at France ...

Re: Youth Mobility alternative

Hi all, My wife (Canadian) does not qualify for a Youth Mobility visa since we have a dependent. Is there an alternative route? She is a school teacher. I am a UK (dual with Canada) citizen, as is our son. We are in the process of doing Surinder Singh, but I find it hard to believe there's not ...

Re: Self employment in Ireland while doing SS route

With regards to meeting the SS minimum recommended 10-12 hours of work/week, does that apply to self employment as well? For example, I teach 6 hour-long lessons a week. That's only 6 hours for which I am paid. I guess if I include prep time, that adds up to more than 6 hours. Alternatively, I ...

Re: EEA2 Surinder Singh 3 Month Success Story

Hi Wssw, Answer 1. You will have to get an accountant involved who can advise you on the appropriate invoicing procedure. I understand that you want to pursue the SS route but which country are you a national of? Answer 2. As an EEA national you can seek or opt for Socials (as they call it in ...

Re: Self employment in Ireland while doing SS route

Hi everyone. 3 questions. Question #1: We've recently started SS in Ireland. I've registered myself at the tax office as self-employed, as I'm giving music lessons from home. My question is with regards to how I should go about providing invoices/proof of my teaching/self-employment. Do I create an ...

Ireland registration

Hi everyone,

We are moving to Ireland. We'll be heading to Ennis after arriving in Dublin. I am a UK citizen and my wife is Canadian. Should we register with the authorities somewhere in Dublin before we do anything else?

Re: In Europe with non EU spouse. What can we do?

Does anyone know about Canadians with EU spouses being able to stay in the Schengen area for more than 90 days? (90 days per country VS 90 days in area as a whole). Is this link valid? Someone on another thread has been insisting that my wife would have 90 days per country. http://eur-lex.europa.eu ...

Re: In Europe with non EU spouse. What can we do?

Just noticed that Malta (& most of rest of Europe, including Belgium) has visa-free entry for Canadian passport holders, so not even a Schengen visa is required to enter the country. My wife's passport still got stamped though, and from what I understand, as a Canadian she can only be in the ...

Re: In Europe with non EU spouse. What can we do?

So, by applying for the residence card, my wife can void the 90 day visa (Malta is in the Schengen area)? Yes, sort of - once you are there you can apply for the RC, on 1 of various grounds; (work; self-employment; self-sufficiency & etc). But note that, if you plan to return to UK in the end, the ...

Re: In Europe with non EU spouse. What can we do?

The border official stamped the passport with an entry date only. Are you suggesting we apply for a residence card for Malta before we go (if we go there)? No, you would have to be there. But easy when you are there. Googling 'musician work malta' brings up bunch of leads to follow. So, by applying ...

Re: In Europe with non EU spouse. What can we do?

It wasn't any kind of special visa. We simply flew into Brussels and they stamped her passport upon entry. That was Nov 5th. Did the border official not stamp (or annotate) the passport with an exit date as well? Suggest dig into that to be sure. If you're not moving on it might be advisable to ...

Re: In Europe with non EU spouse. What can we do?

Only thing is, my wife's passport was stamped in Belgium in early November, so that means she only has until early February in the Schengen area, correct? Unless there's some kind of exception...
