You don't have to transfer it, just make sure you get back the cancelled passport and carry both passports when you travel.

I spoke to the Home Office last year about absences as I was worried about going over and the person I spoke to confirmed to me over the phone what Johnny's case officer stated: they are really looking for continuous, employed stay in the UK ...

Citizenship Application wit Notarised copy of Passport?

The UKBA webpage indicates that applications for citizenship need actual documents, not copies, however I have heard that under current laws you can apply for citizenship with a notarised copy of your passport, rather than sending away your passport for the months it takes to process the application ...
