Quick question about 12 months - duration calculation

Post by kaps84 » Wed Dec 07, 2016 3:10 pm

Dear Gurus,

I have a peculiar question to ask. This is from 12 months minimum job calculation perspective.
If a person starts mid-way of the month, say 7th or 14th or 21st of the month. How does the HO looks at it, as the period of employment?

Does half / partial month counts as full 1 month among 12 months?

This situation can likely happen at the start or at the 12th month of employment.

Kind Regards,

The HO calculations are based on weeks worked, given the requirement is full time job of a min 30 hours per week.
Each year is 52 weeks x 30 hours each = 1560 hours x 2 positions = 3120 hours of full time work

Hi Zimba88,

Thanks for replying. I respect your response, however, could you please let me know if this sort of calculation is part of official documentation as well ? and it will be great if you can point that out to me. Just want to go through the entire piece of information if it is given somewhere.

There is no official source on how the hours are being calculated. However the guide says min of 30 hours a week and then wants 12 months of employment. So what I said above is basically derived from what the guide says. It is also much easier to understand and calculate your hours that way

Does it matter if payslips don't say how many hours worked each month as long as the salary stated in the payslip is enough to cover the required full time employment? Or is it a requirement to say how many hours worked weekly/monthly?

Put the hourly rate on the form. Payslips do not show hourly rate.

Zimba88, I think some payslips do show that. Please see this iris type payslip (link below), this one shows both hourly rate and hours worked. I guess the most important data here are the total payment made to the employee and the amounts deducted for NI and income tax etc, right?

yes, rarely. No such requirements to have such payslips.
Just the period of employment, hourly rate and all payslips covering the period
