Sponsor Letter Template

Post by specialsaint » Wed Jun 25, 2008 4:31 pm

Hi, I have searched the forum for assistance with a template. The story is this: I have been asked by a consultant who currently works for my UK company (he is an Indian Consultant currently working on a project outside of the UK) to act as his sponsor which I am happy to do. He has already received an HSMP approval letter and he now needs me send a letter to support his application for entry clearance to come to the UK. I note the many success stories and there has been good templates used but again I am unable to locate one.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

You cannot offer any financial sponsorship. The maintenance funds, a Tier 1 / HSMP EC requirement, have to be in the applicant's name in his bank account.

As for accommodation, there is no need for a formal template - just a simple letter that states how you know the applicant and that you will provide him accommodation will be sufficient. You might want to see the guidelines on overcrowding here before you decide to sponsor accommodation. The size of the property where you intend to accommodate the applicant and the number of people currently living there will determine whether you need to include a property inspection report with your sponsorship letter or not. Only you can figure that out.

You will also be required to provide (photocopies) of utility bills / council tax and your salary slips / proof of income (last 4-6 months for each type) along with the cover letter.

A word of advice - submitting any fraudulent documentation or information may lead to the applicant being banned from entering UK and may also lead to sanctions against the sponsor.

Thanks for your advice sushdmehta. The consultant doesn't require me to provide accommodation or financial backing, it's really to assist him with a letter accompanying his application for entry clearance. As my company has already engaged him onto his current assignment, he feels we will be well placed to assist with the application by providing a letter of reference. I understand his plan is to obtain entry into the UK so when his current project finishes, he will have the option to work in the UK (or not). Maybe the term 'sponsor' is too strong for these purposes. I guess the simple letter you mentioned will be sufficient? Thank you for your advice regarding fraud, this is obviously something we would never entertain. Again, I appreciate your response.

AFAIK, a letter of reference does not add any value to an Entry Clearance application. Personally, do not think it will have any bearing, whatsoever, on the application.

But yes, something like - a job offer (either unconditional or subject to EC approval), an employer sponsoring accommodation etc. - does add weight.
