Biometric required again for Extension?

In last renewal of in-country Tier1 Dep extension, my wife has done the biometric. Now we want to apply another extension through post. Again we have to do biometeric for this new extension? please advise?

Did anybody the Tier 1 Dep extension appiled through Online ?
Is there any timelines difference between applying through post vs online or any difference? KIndly advise.
