Very Urgent Self Employment NI contribution class 2

From hmrc web link, one has to pay class 2 NI contributions if his/her earnings are more than £5,595. where as my earnings are less than 5595 that is 4000. In my case, do I need to provide any document.

www.hmrc.gov.uk/working/intro/class2.htm

You pay Class 2 National Insurance contributions at a flat rate of £2.65 a week. However, if your earnings are below £5,595 per year (2012-13) you might not need to pay - see 'Exceptions to paying Class 2 National Insurance contributions' below.

I understand that, in your case you need to submit an exemption certificate from HMRC

Read Tier 1 guidance notes point no. 116

iii) If the applicant has low earnings: The
applicant should provide an original small
earnings exception certificate issued by
HM Revenue & Customs for the most
recent return date.

call HMRC and ask how long it will be to send an exemption certificate, if its taking too long then ask them to send the NI bill for the whole period (they are quicker sending a bill than an exemption certificate :D ) pay the NI and include that bill and bank statement showing payment with your application, you can apply to HMRC for a refund later on
