Advice needed: Can I work while I'm extending Tier4 visa?

Hi all,

I'm studying at U of Reading and I came with my initial Tier 4 visa which expired on 2/10/16. The visa permits me to work for max 10 hrs. 2 weeks ago I submitted an application to extend my visa to HO (via U of Reading) with the view to get the BRP. I still haven't received the BRP so far hence want to find out if I can still work as my initial visa has expired and I'm in the process of extending my visa?
