Any kind souls please help - UK Tier 4 Extension

Post by worriedsick » Thu Sep 01, 2016 7:02 pm

Hi Guys, just a bit of background:

App submitted: 01/08/16
Biometric Letter Sent: 11/08/16
Biometrics Enrolled: 15/08/16

No confirmation received.

I understand that the 8 weeks period has not passed yet but I hope some of you can understand how nerve-wracking this entire process is and will reply me! Two questions:

1. I'm just worried because I have never received any confirmation from UKVI about receipt of my passport/receipt of my biometrics. Never got called up for an interview either. The only thing I've received from UKVI is literally my biometrics letter. Does this mean they have not received anything?

2. Its been well past their "usual" time of 3 weeks and I'm worried because I sent the application off on the same date as the "last enrolment date" on my CAS (I have legitimate reasons, trust me ):). Do you think that would affect anything?

I don't understand what else you were expecting to receive, other than the outcome of the application, but as you say that is not likely to be for weeks yet.
I do not give immigration advice. I refer you to Immigration Rules, guidance, other online content and to your sponsor.

You are mistaken. HO don't send you an acknowledgement that your biometrics have been received.

Don't expect too much hand-holding and feedback from UKVI/HO (if any).
You will need to be quite resilient to live and study far from home; you could look at this as the start of the induction and 'toughening up' process.

Try not to worry, just sit tight and tough it out.

I don't have any substantive updates, but people have been really kind to reply ^ so I'm just here to thank them. It's week 6, still waiting out.

It is not week 6, it has only just been 3 weeks since you gave your Biometrics.

Probably to evaluate you and determine you are a genuine student.

There may be some clues or similarities here:

You need to relax, breathe and prepare yourself - you need to be on top of your game, well-briefed, calm and collected..
Good luck.

Thank you for this! In that thread they were saying a second interview is significant cause for concern; is that the same for a first interview? I do understand that you probably cannot provide every single answer under the stars but thought I'd try asking. Thanks once again!

Yep, I don't know. Suggest wait for student specialists to come online.

If anyone who has had an interview for a Tier 4 extension sees this, please help out if you can, at your convenience! Your little acts will mean much.

Speak to the International Student Adviser at your university. They will know the current processing times, and if necessary liaise with the Home Office.

Thanks sah, have done that over the weeks and we are all scratching our heads. They are trying to liaise with the Home Office so I'm hoping for the best.

This limbo is quite taxing.

the other thread is about interviews from outside of the UK. all tier 4 applicants who apply from outside the UK are interviewed so a second interview is more significant.

a first interview for an in country application is basically akin to a second interview for an entry clearance application. they are interviewing you because something in your application or history gives them cause for concern that you may not be a genuine student.the fact you are a low risk national is not relevant the low risk aspect only related to not having to provide evidence of maintenance and quals and not to do with the genuine student requirement.

All these replies do keep me going and allow me to better understand the process. Many thanks Greenie. Waiting out for the interview details.

Update (or rather, the lack of one):

My documents have been with UKVI for what seems like forever. I have not been offered an interview date yet. My university has contacted UKVI and they cannot provide an answer better than the contact line's. This is starting to get hilarious as I am financially sponsored, have enough personal funds for maintenance, have a job waiting and am almost halfway through my course.

Beginning to wonder if they just lost all of my stuff and are stalling for time. When I submitted this application I was single - now I have eight grandchildren, two of which have started sixth form

It doesn't seem to be about your funds or academic progress, but some other unknown aspect of your personal or immigration history that appears to have triggered some concern about your credibility. The interview will be your opportunity to clarify it all.

Meanwhile you are lawfully in the UK and can proceed with your studies, so I advise you concentrate on that.
