Certificate and progression

Post by saranayyer » Tue Jul 21, 2015 11:14 am

Hi everyone,

Looking for some help.

I came to UK in 2013-14 for master course in law. Then i did diploma in management in 2014-15 but my college was revoked just one month befre my course completion so I did managed to complete my course but the college is having problem with awarding body so my final certificate stuck. I do have a letter from college confirming course was finished and partial transcript from awarding body as well.

I have now received unconditional offer from law phd from a uni and my admission is based on my master degree.

I will be applying for visa from my home country pakistan. Will the missing certificate be a problem for my visa application?

Also my phd is in human rights law which is not related to my previous course. will this be a problem?

Thanks in advance

No. You were offered the place on the basis of a previous qualification, so that is the certificate you need.

It may come up at a credibility interview, but presumably you can explain your choice.

Hi,

I have a question regarding progression to PhD as well.

I have done a masters and a diploma from UK too and have now received an offer for MPhil leading to Phd. I read in the recent changes you can't study at the same level anymore except where it supports 'career aspirations''? I am able to speak about this if required in the credibility interview and I am not extending my visa as I will be applying from my country, India.

Is it likely to be a problem for my application?

That is not correct. That is only one of the exceptions. See http://www.ukcisa.org.uk/studentnews/55 ... g-students

Thanks for your reply, mate.

I've just read the guidance. Unfortunately, my PhD is unrelated to my diploma but related to my masters. I did the diploma after the masters so I reckon it could be an issue because MPhil leading to PhD is in the same level as diploma and does not involve further specialisation of previous course (diploma) so only the career exception would apply.

Do you think it's going to impact my application adversely?

Ask your university. They will need to decide whether to sponsor you for the visa application.

CAS query

Post by himesh771 » Fri Aug 28, 2015 3:47 pm

Hi,

My uni has allocated the CAS statement to me. However, once they emailed it to me I noticed an error on it. They had not put my progression details. I asked them to amend it and they said that they can't send me a new statement but have updated the UKVI system. They also sent me a snapshot of the updated system. They have just a added a new Sponsor note stating I was previously doing a level 7 course and will now be doing a level 8 course. I have previously done a diploma and masters in UK. Now I'm making a new application for PhD from outside the UK.

Is this sufficient information for progression purposes? Will this present a problem in me seeking 30 points for the CAS?

Can someone also tell me the no. Of hours for studying a full time PhD/week?

Thanks in advance.

Himesh

Academic progression is not required for a Tier 4 application made outside the UK. I imagine this is why it was omitted (correctly) from your CAS.

That's a question for your supervisor or the relevant office at your university about the academic regualtions at your university. I imagine there is no specific requirement. It is also nothing to do with your Tier 4 application.
