Does time spent under Tier 4 count for ILR

Post by jionunez » Wed Nov 25, 2015 6:32 am

I know that people with a Tier 2 visa can apply for Residency after spending 5 years living in the UK. The one question I haven't been able to answer from the UK government websites is, does time spent studying in the UK under a Tier 4 visa (about 5-6 years for my PhD) count for the 5-year requirement, if I get a Tier 2 visa immediately after finishing my degree and wish to apply for residency?

No it does not. Tier 4 can only be used for time spent towards 10 years long residence.

You will need 5 years on Tier 2 G to qualify for ILR as the rules stand now.
