want to apply another master

Post by Lenskeaw » Fri May 22, 2015 8:18 am

Hi everyone..

Based on what i finished now is MBA (waiting for result because i just submit on May 14,2015)

is it possible that i will continue another master but in different field.

I used to contact with some university and they said "It impossible" and didn't give me any reason.

I know that i need to study progress but based on budget and PHD course is too heavy for me.

anyone has any suggestion what should i do? or any course that i can apply?

Hi,

I experienced this in the past. The home office will not accept you studying something at a same level i.e. in your case, any Masters level. So this is why your university says it's impossible. What you can proceed is only MPhil (normally 1.5 years) or PhD.

Hope this helps!

This is wrong and misleading. Further study at the same academic level can be fine, if it is complementary to the previous study, and if the Tier 4 sponsor confirms this on the CAS. Study in a totally different field would not normally be complementary, hence why the university has said it is "impossible" for them to sponsor you for that.
I do not give immigration advice. I refer you to Immigration Rules, guidance, other online content and to your sponsor.

Sorry for being misleading here! But I was trying to study in a totally same field, and that was what told by my uni's officer. I wouldn't choose MPhil if there was an option for me :?

If a university says it is "impossible" to sponsor you for a second Masters which will be a deeper specialisation in your field, you should ask them why so. If it is because the academic regulations at that university prevent it, you should challenge their regulations as unfair and unreasonable. However if they are saying it is "impossible" under the Tier 4 rules about academic progession, either they are lying to you (perhaps they don't want you for another reason) or they are uniformed.

All the "rules" (actually guidance not rules) for Tier 4 sponsors are laid out in Guidance for Tier 4 sponsors: Sponsorship Duties.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... -educators

Paragraph 5.23 confirms that

" ... academic progression may involve further study at the same level. In these cases, you must confirm that the new course complements the previous course. For example, a student may be moving from a taught master’s degree to an MBA or research-based master’s degree, or taking a course to develop a deeper specialisation in a particular field. If the course is at the same level we may request an explanation to confirm why the student has been approved by you for this course."
