British passport for my daughter

Hello all,

I will be processing my ILR in October, once I get that done I will be applying for British passport for my daughter. I read in direct.gov.uk that father needs to produce marriage certificate while applying for british passport.

I got married in India and so I have marriage certificate provided by Indian authority.

Will this document suffice or should I get this approved by any British authority?

If it needs approval how and where do I get this done? Please advice.

Thank you

The Indian marriage certificate is good enough. This is from personal experience.

Thank you

If it is also in English, it will suffice

It is not clear from your post but I assume that you are aware that you need to apply for registration as a British national first, before you can apply for the passport.

No, you misunderstand. I´m not referring to registering the birth of a child (a mandatory requirement); I am referring to the requirement for you to register your child as a British citizen after you are granted ILR and before she can apply for a passport. Your first post implied that you would be applying directly for the child's passport after you are granted ILR. She was born in the UK to parents that are not settled, therefore she is not British. When you get ILR she will not become British automatically; she needs to register as British. There is clear information about how to do this on the UKBA site.

This is not about registering her birth but application to register her as a British Citizen.

Was she born in the UK before your ILR? Then you will need to make an application to register her as a British Citizen. Until such an application is approved, she is not British and can not apply for a British passport.

See more here.
