Time Spent in any British Overseas Territory

Post by jes2jes » Mon Mar 19, 2007 6:51 pm

Hello everyone:

I have a quick question and hope someone can answer this.
Does time spent in any of the BOT's count towards ILR or Naturalisation?

I am thinking of spending a few months (>= 6 months) to finish off a contract which will come up later on this year and wanted to know if this is going to set back the ILR clock or affect naturalisation.

Thanks in advance.
Praise The Lord!!!!

Short answer : No. Time in a BOT will not count for obtaining/keeping ILR, or for naturalisation.

If you mean a Crown Dependency - Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man - then the ILR rules are a very grey area and not advisable to risk it. But time in a Crown Dependency does count for naturalisation.

JAJ:

Thanks for your response. I don't mean a crown dependency but a BOT as mentioned. Well, would have to weigh the pros and cons and make a final decision sometime this year.

Many thanks
