Don't think there is an option to collect OCI in person from VFS. Would be great if you can share your experience if you are able to collect it in person!

I email Gosdwell and they told me there is an option for an emergency you can collect your passport and OCI document in person.
Anyway my OCI still didn't' reach in London so I am not taking any risk.
I am taking my children old passport with life long U visa.

Thank you for the information. Do you know what they count as emergency and if we require any documents/prof for the same? I am also in the same situation as you are - flying on 23rd but I am not planning to come back to London for a while as I am moving for a 2 year assignment!

Not sure how much time it takes for the processed document to reach London, some people received next day itself. Was expecting my docs which are dispatched on 17th to reach on 18th.

They have only narrow time slots 8.30am to 11.30am to submit passport

Noticed status update at 10.30am today, quickly took a print out and went to VFS at 11.05am, the cut off time was 11am it seems.

Kind hearted person at the entrance allowed me and I submitted my passport .

Regarding Collection In-Person: If it is really urgent and you are travelling soon you can request them for in-person collection at VFS (as per the info I got at the couter). They don't need any additional documents.

Hello, I am applying for an OCI after attaining British Citizenship. I will be surrendering my Indian passport next week. In preparations of OCI application I was reading through some of the messages in this board. I wanted to ask that the "Application Date" mentioned in your posts means online application date. I read through the OCI process in VFS website and it states that all applications have to be submitted online.

After the online status says "OCI Received" we then submit the British Passport in person at the vfs centre. Again this is by appointment only which is done online.
However, the website also mentions "Applicants are required to submit the originals along with a set of photocopies of the originals, both sets of documents need to be submitted at the counter".
When is this done? After OCI received status or before? The instructions seem a bit confusing.

Hi all,

Can some one advise on what are details expected on "Declaration of Passport submission for issuance of OCI" form provided by VFS at the time of application submission.

There are 3 details that are expected

1) Passport No: This is applicant passport number

2) Application Reference No: I take this as the GBRL number generated for the form when an online OCI application is filled

3) Envelope number: Now this is where the confusion. On the Royal Mail envelope you have a post office sticker with bar code number. On the same envelope , VFS has affixed a sticker with their reference number and bar code number starting with GBRL. Again this GBRL number is not the same as GBRL number for the Application reference number.

For 2 & 3, please can someone confirm what exactly is expected.

Why is British Passport required for submission please? Did you get OCI stikcer on it?

1.Government of India has decided to dispense with the "U" Visa sticker on the foreign passport of OCI card holders with immediate effect. Accordingly, Immigration authorities shall not insist on production of foreign passport containing the "U" Visa sticker in the case of OCI card holders while they enter/exit India. OCI card holders shall now be given Immigration clearance on the strength of their valid forign passport and OCI Registration Certificate (OCI booklet, popularly known as OCI card).

This is done at the time of submission of your application in person at VFS centre.
