Hodling British passport entering with different passport

Hello, I am going away for a month soon. I would like to apply for British passport and then leave on my trip while my application is under process (hopefully they will return my originals by the time I leave) My question is, can I enter UK on a different passport even though I got a British passport which has been delivered while I am away. I would still have my ILR with me, would that be eligible for me to enter. Your answers will be appreciated _ cheers have a happy holidays

In the absence of proof that you are British, they will just treat you as a returning resident.
