Frontier worker: live in UK, work in France

Post by simongab » Tue Feb 24, 2015 11:07 am

Hello!

I did not find my question answered anywhere in the forum so I am opening a new topic.

Here is the situation:
- I am a German national currently living in France with my wife, who is a US national
- My wife will be starting a job in the UK soon and we will move to the UK together and have a joint apartment there
- I will continue to work full-time in France in my current job, but am prepared to commute weekly to the UK

My questions are:
- Is there a way that I will be considered a qualified person in the UK? (Note that I will have an apartment lease in my name there)
- More specifically: can I qualify as a frontier worker or as a self-sufficient person in the UK? If so, what proof would I need to show (apart from CSI in the self-sufficient case).

Any advice is much appreciated.
Simon

A frontier worker, is a worker within the meaning of Regulation 6.

They will need to demonstrate that they are indeed a genuine worker, and that the genuinely reside in the UK

Hi Simon,

I am in a very similar situation as you: I am a Swiss national, my husband is a US national. We are moving to the UK where my husband will obtain a family permit. I have a job offer in Switzerland and plan to commute back and forth every week to the UK, where my husband and I share our only apartment (in my name).

Did you find out anything about being a frontier worker or self-sufficient?

Thanks.
