English Language requirement for ILR

Post by wiyyala » Wed Sep 16, 2015 10:50 pm

Hi,

I would really appreciate if some one could help me with this.

Me and my wife are eligible to apply for ILR in Nov 2015. I am currently on Tier - 1 General Visa and my wife is on dependant visa. I do not have an issue with my application , but my query is regarding the English Language requirement for my wife's application. We have got her degree certificate certified by NARIC and they have confirmed it meets the requirements of CEFR level C1.

However I have recently read in the ILR "SET_O__guidance_notes_04-15.pdf"
"The Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK requirement is changing in November 2015. From that date you will only be able to use an English language qualification at B1 level or above if it is on the
list of acceptable Home Office qualifications."

I am not very sure how this will affect us. Is the NARIC certification no longer valid ? Could someone who knows the answer for this could please reply asap.

Thank you in advance.

The November changes only relate to applicants submitting an ESOL certificate.
Other forms of proof of English such as an appropriate degree are unchanged.

Hi noajthan,

Thank you for your quick reply. In that case I assume that the NARIC certification of C1 should not be an issue.

Thank you

C1 trumps B1 (in CEFR) & you are not submitting ESOL or SELT so I would concur.
