Moving to French of EU nationals's spouses

Post by Patcha » Sat Apr 19, 2008 10:57 am

Hi..
I would like to ask some questions about application visa to French embassy in London.
I am Thai citizen and my husband is German. He is working in London right now and i am going to see him on May by EEA Family Permit visa, valid for 6 months (April - October)and intended to apply as a Residence card when i am in a UK.
But the problem is my husband just get a new job in Geneva, Switzerland and we have to move to live in French on June , so the question are:

1. I see this website http://www.consulfrance-londres.org/spip.php?article352 and i know that i have to apply as Schengen visa but i am not sure . If i apply as Schengen visa ,when i arrive in French i'll be able apply Residence Permit or Not? because my wish is to be able living long stay in French with my husband... and If Not what types of visa i should apply to french embassy to be able living long stay and get Residence Permit in French? http://riviera.angloinfo.com/countries/ ... idency.asp

2. Could i apply Schengen visa once i am in UK?? How long of this process to get Schengen visa?

3. What the documents i need for apply visa?

Thank you

Where are you presently? Do you have an original of your marriage certificate and a copy of your husband's passport? How long have you been married?

Are you going to live in Geneva, Switzerland, or France (not French)? If France, have you contacted the French embassy in your country and asked what you should do?

I am in Thailand now and i'll go to UK on May 21 . I just married on February 2008 and yes, i have original of marriage certificate and a copy of my husband's passport.
i just afraid if i apply as Schengen visa, i won't be able stay in the long period with my husband. But my husband will call to ask French embassy in London about what types of visa i should apply.

I thought that i may had to apply long stay visa, so i tried to get some information but i found out this...
"Family members of EU nationals must lodge an application for a short stay Schengen visa then contact the prefecture to finalise the formalities, should they wish to settle in France."

http://www.consulfrance-londres.org/spip.php?article343

so , i may have to apply Schengen visa first then when i arrive France i have to apply residence permit later?

This is right. You apply, after arriving in France, for a Residence Card. Before that you need a visa for entering France.

I would apply for it before travelling to the UK. The French embassy UK is very slow during the summer
