Help needed on dependent visa (overstay)

Help expected from experts:

I have my hsmp visa expiring on 20 NOV 2009.
I have applied for an extention some time back. Due to some application problem, I had to send some more document to Home office which in turn have delayed the extention approval.
I don't think I am getting my Visa extended before 20 NOV 2009.

The problem is,
I have not applied my wife's extention together with mine. Because she was not meeting some criteria for her extention. We decided to apply for her dependent visa separately once I get my Visa extention done. She is meeting all the criteria now but I dont have my Visa extended.

In case I don't get my Visa approved before 20 NOV 2009, my wife will be overstaying in UK. I know it is a problem, but could it be big enough to cause problem for the dependent application after 20 NOV 2009?!

I have heard it from people that a 28 days or less overstay is not a big problem if substantiated with some valid reason.

Please advice.

It would be a good idea to call Case Worker and explain your position. You can email them as well. They will consider this as you did apply before your Visa expired. If you are confident that your application will be successful this time, then without waiting for your Visa, apply for her as well before 20th Nov 2009.

You are only Gambling on a fee of £485, which is far less than hassle of applying through appeal or even going back to your original country to apply for extension for your wife.

After 20th Nov, your wife will be living in UK illegaly and that is a FACT. you have to always mention this when applyg for other extension, citizenship etc.. that she overstayed.

Thank you for the reply. I couldnt completely understand your suggestion. You suggested me to apply dependent Visa for my wife before 20 NOV. But I really can not do that until I get an extention. I will be needing a photocopy of my extended Visa while applying for her Visa.
Could you please elaborate a bit more. Thank you for your time.
