Want to sponsor Parents visitor visa

Post by rajkumarpatel » Mon Jan 18, 2010 11:54 am

Hi All,
I am on UK workpermit (now tier 2 general) and I have very good credit history over here. I would like to sponsor my Parents trip which will be of 4-5 weeks upto max. Can you please clarify my below queries:
1.) I am living in a 1 bed flat, so will it be issue sponsoring their stay at my place. If yes, then what should I do?
2.) My parents are retired and own their home in India. To show that they have ties, what all they can show apart from the property? or is it required etal?
3.) Do my parent require to show a good bank balance and if yes how much it should be in approximate? If I transfer the same amount to their account, then for how many months they should maintain that balance before applying for Visa?
4.) The spelling of my mother's name is different in my passport and in my parents passport. Will this gonna be a problem or not? if Yes, then should I get my passport updated with the correct spelling here in London (Indian embassy)? Do they provide such service in Indian consulate?
5.) Can you please provide a list of doc's that I need to provide for their application? Can I do it on my own or do I need to see a immigration solicitor to prepare the sponsorship documents?

Thanking you all in advance...

This may be a problem. See below:

"What counts as overcrowding?

If your accommodation is much too small for your household you may be considered to be living in overcrowded conditions under the law. Your home may be legally overcrowded if there are not enough rooms or space for the number of people who live there:
The number of people per room -

If two people of the opposite sex have to sleep in the same room the accommodation will be overcrowded unless the two people are:

A married or cohabiting couple, or
At least one occupant is under ten years old.

The number of people of the same sex (unless they are a same-sex couple) who can sleep in one room is restricted by the size of the room (see below).

The amount of space in each room -
Rooms that are counted include living rooms, bedrooms and large Spam. For the space and floor area calculations:

Children under one year old are ignored
Children under ten years old and over one count as a half
Rooms under 50 square feet are ignored.

As a general rule:

1 room = 2 people
2 rooms = 3 people
3 rooms = 5 people
4 rooms = 7.5 people
5 or more rooms = 2 people per room.
But the floor area of a room also determines how many people can sleep in it:

floor area 110 sq feet (10.2 sq metres approx) = 2 people
floor area 90 - 109 sq ft (8.4 - 10.2 sq m approx) = 1.5 people
floor area 70 - 89 sq ft (6.5 - 8.4 sq m approx) = 1 person
floor area 50 - 69 sq ft (4.6 - 6.5 sq m approx) = 0.5 people."
2.) My parents are retired and own their home in India. To show that they have ties, what all they can show apart from the property? or is it required etal?
Strong family ties, other substantial (financial) investments...
3.) Do my parent require to show a good bank balance and if yes how much it should be in approximate? If I transfer the same amount to their account, then for how many months they should maintain that balance before applying for Visa?
If they are sponsoring themselves on this trip then they need to show sufficient funds covering their return flights and the period they are in the UK for. I don't think that you transferring money into their account for the sake of the application will help (unless they ordinarily depend on you financially). If you are going to sponsor them then you need to provide your bank statements showing sufficient funds covering the same.
4.) The spelling of my mother's name is different in my passport and in my parents passport. Will this gonna be a problem or not? if Yes, then should I get my passport updated with the correct spelling here in London (Indian embassy)? Do they provide such service in Indian consulate?
Question: What's your mother's name doing in your adult passport? Anyway, if it is a minor spelling error I guess you should be fine. What exactly is it?
5.) Can you please provide a list of doc's that I need to provide for their application? Can I do it on my own or do I need to see a immigration solicitor to prepare the sponsorship documents?
No need for an immigration lawyer unless your parents have a poor immigration history with refusals, removals, bans etc... Look at the UKVisas website for a list of all the docs you'll need as well as guidance notes on filling the family visa application form.

I don't think it will be considered over crowded since a 1 bedroom flat also has a living room which counts as a room. So two rooms for three people (unless someone else lives with you) should be fine.
I tell it like it is.

Hi,
I am married and living with my wife its a proper large 1 bedroom flat with separate lounge.
Will that still be a problem as I have heard from my 2 of my friends that you just need to give council tax proof as your accommodation proof and 1 bed flat should be fine.

I'll be sponsoring their entire trip.

Mine is a Indian passport and Indian passport does have mothers name in them. Yes it is a spelling mistake, as below:
My passport: Phalaswari Mother passport: Falaswari
I am wondering if Indian embassy provides such services in London, then I can get it done.
