postal order not accepted!!! (now resolved)

Post by arsenal49 » Wed Mar 10, 2010 7:04 pm

I cant believe i am writing this but my friend applied on 28th of jan and got ack dated 7th feb and no news after that.

Its been 40 days todays so he called them and was told that they cant tell him the status of application form as its not 14 weeks yet since the date of application.

Not content with the reply, he gave a call to post office asking when was the postal order cashed in. He attached 2 x 250 pounds postal order with app. He was told that 1 postal order was cashed in on 10 feb but the other one was refused!!! Turns out that the person at the post office had made a blunder and cancelled 1 of the postal order. although it was noted that she tried to rectify the situation 20 min after the tranasaction took place on her own but to no avail.

So... its been 30 days since HO tried to take money via postal order and got only 250 pounds out of 500. his documents are not returned or anything so wondering what the hell is going on.

Should he send new form with payment details etc. or do what? If payment is not made then the application is rendered invalid and returned withing couple of days but thats notwhat has happened.

On the phone he was told that UKBA person would contact him to send remaining amount but we are not too sure if they will be THAT kind.

Can anyone please guide us here as to what should be our next step. Paying another 500 pounds for new app is not an option as maintenance funds issue would arise.

Please help.

PS. Although he submitted psw app, i am posting in here because this will get more exposure and the question is not relevant to the type of application made. Mods, please dont move it

Try contacting the payment department of BIA. There is a possibility that you will be able to talk to some one, if you are lucky

arsenal49, another interpretation .... quite possibly wrongly .... is fraud/theft by the person at the Post Office. If I were you I would be contacting Post Office head office and making them very aware of the situation. I think their anti-fraud team would be very interested to investigate.

payment department??? the general public enquiries guy on the phone said my friend cant do any thing except wait for caseworker to contact him. he did ask him to forward him to payment department...

can anyone share the number they were given to contact payment office? pleeeease...

regards everyone

regarding fraud... that is a bit low on priority at the moment cuz this is very disgusting thing to happen. his whole future could be ruined from the mistake, intentionally or unintentionally, of that stupid person on the counter in the post office.

hope it turns out ok...

They usually turn down applications straight away if payment is not cleared right? why have they waited for 30 days and counting. should we be heartened by it that HO is doing something to clear the payment or.... we dont know what to think

thanks

Charging Dept (Home office) 01142072918
Customer Service (Home Office) 01142072966

You can also send an email to Charging.Workpermits@UKBA.gsi.gov.uk

You can also send a fax to the following number - 02081963248. Explain your observation and

authorise them to resubmit the payment.

If the file had not been passed to the case worker, then there might be a way out. Otherwise,

they'll return the whole package back to you and ask you to reapply.

If they ever send the package back, you'll need to print a new payment and biodata bage, fill and

replace. You'll also need to ensure that there's sufficient funds in your account as they going to

deduct a new fees (820+50+50) before refunding the previous deduction.
Hope that helps................
Got this from another discussion.
All the best!

I disagree. The Post Office treat fraud/theft very seriously. What has happened here is totally unacceptable. Just think of the accounting here. £500 (plus fees) handed over and only £250 of value handed over. What actually happened to the other £250, and the fee on that 2nd Postal Order? Where is that money?

If the Post Office declines to act, contact the Police.

hi john.

we have sent them receipts etc. and they say they will be refunding him 250 pounds.

I am afraid that doesnt help us one iota in reducing the risk of rejection from HO.

I am sure they would investigate and blah blah but how is that gonna help us at all with application.

regards

Sorry, who is "they"? Who is refunding the £250? UKBA? Post Office?

From the Post Office the person also wants a profuse apology, and an acknowledgement that they, the Post Office, were totally at fault in this matter. Armed with that apology, given this is extremely unusual, and clearly not the fault of the person, I would like to think that UKBA will be sympathetic in this matter.

sorry if i wasnt specific earlier. we contacted royal mail department who deals with postal orders. and they have offered a refund. We requested a letter of support to our case detailing that this is not fault on our part at all. Lets see when they send us back. We did tell them it was for home office and that was meant to be visa application fee.

Our only worry is... what if UKBA has already returned his application (currently might be in the post). According to waiting times... it was going to be processed this week.

we want to get hold of charging department....gotta keep trying...

Will keep everyone posted.
