Can Registrar accept expired passport for marriage license

my passport is expired and i intend to give notice for marriage(to get a marriage license), was wondering if a registrar would accept it as proof of identity?

this depends a lot on your registrar. call them up and they'd be able to guide you

As said before, it depends on the registrar. But if you had another form of ID, driving licence, birth certificate, other national ID card to go a long with the expired passport then that might help. Explain all of this to the registrar.

hi guys, thanks for replies.
I have a british full drivers license as well and i have explained all this to registrar over the phone and they have said that they will not accept an expired passport or british drivers license because i am a foreign national.
Unfortunately my embassy take a very long time to renew.
