Travelling in the EU using BC Certificate

Post by chocho » Sun Dec 04, 2011 10:20 pm

Hi,

I would like to know whether I can travel from London to Switzerland using just my BC certificate and any form of ID. I do not have a UK Passport yet, but the travel is quite urgent.

Please let me know

Thank you

The BC certificate is not a travel document. However, the UK doesn't require British citizens to exit and enter the UK using a British passport. So you could use your other passport but that depends if your other nationality allows dual nationality and if you require a visa to travel.

I think he want use his old passport as ID and BC certificate to prove his another nationality so he can travel Visa free.
It maybe ok to re-Enter UK.

As I said, the BC certificate is irrelevant for travel.

Why do you need to show the certificate when entering Switzerland? If this is to travel visa free as using your other passport requires a visa, then the answer is No. You can't use it in order to travel visa free.

I spoke to the Swiss Embassy. The answer is No. A British Passport is needed. Authorities find it difficult to explain since being British = being an EU Citizen, but part of the issue is that the UK does not issue EU ID cards. Thank you for your answers.
