I currently live in Canada but will be relocating to France within the next year. I am originally from Northern Ireland and still hold citizenship which means I can work legally in France with a passport. I am trying to decide if I should get my British passport or my Irish passport. Are there any pros or cons to either of these in terms of living and finding work in France? Is one more beneficial than the other?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Ashlea.

Why not get both, and present them as you deem fit?

In general I would tend to prefer an Irish one, as no-one worldwide bears any bad feelings towards Ireland (or does anyone?).

But that´s very general. Any serious person should judge you by who you are, not which passport you hold.

Christian

Price and convenience perhaps, but that's about it. No difference in terms of freedom of movement.

If you wanted to move directly to either the UK or Ireland with non-EU family members, then getting the passport of the other country would make sense.

In general, getting a passport take time if you have not had one (from that country) before, and may require more administrative applications than you expect ("I need an original copy of my parent's marriage certificate??"). I personally would get the faster one now, or get both if you have time.

What citizenship have you been using?
