I was reluctant to send the documents to that address.
I have sent my documents to that address beacuse
a) I visited local tax office and they said HMRC wont accept certified copies from tax office and the return address on reply envelop is fine and i should send my passports to this address.
b) Some one from this forum told me that they send their documents to the same address and got them back within one week.

I am really worried now.

I am bit relaxed now. i will send my passport with a covering note.

Hi jinkazama_11, have you sent your passport? Any updates received from the HMRC?

yes i have sent my and my wife's passport last week but haven't received anything back. just worried about losing our passports.

Thanks for the reply. Please note that I am also in the same boat and worried about my CTC outcome. After being granted ILR in Feb I applied for CTC in mid-March this year. Around 3 wks after making that application I then received a letter from HMRC asking me to provide further evidence in support of my CTC claim. Basically they sent me a form to fill in with immigration details and requested to return that along with my original passport to the CHILD BENEFIT OFFICE in NEWSCASTLE using the prepaid envelope that they also sent with the form. I posted all these by RM next day delivery service on 29th May and the CB office duly received those on time. Yesterday I rang the Tax Credit office for an update and to my surprise they said they haven't received any such documents and my CTC has been rejected. I told them that I did send all the required papers and have the proof of delivery to the NEWCASTLE OFFICE. At this point they said I shouldn't have sent the documents to CB office as they are not responsible to deal with CTC and therefore Tax Credit Office wouldn't be able to provide any update apart from that my claim has been rejected. I was really angry and forced the so called 'advisor' to let me talk to his manager. The manager simply said she doesn't understand why the Tax Credit office would ask me to send something to CB office and it's not their mistake that my passport is now missing. The funny thing is that she then advised to make a new CTC claim and also said that after 3 weeks of making the new claim they will send me a form asking for further documents if needed. AGAIN!!!! Looks like it's going to be the same cycle again. Sheer stupidity beyond anyone's comprehension!!

After reading ur post even I checked my documents to see where I have sent the documents, yes even I have send the our passports to that address. I don't understand why did Hmrc sent those envelopes but when my documents came back with a covering letter it has tax credit address on it. I don't understand what they are doing. Mine is in appeals & no response yet.

Hi,

Our case is the same. We applied in April for child benefit and child work credit. We got a form to fill asking about confirmation about our immigration status. Sent everything on the same day.

Today I called to check if everything is ok and was told that they have not got documents.

I used Next day Signed For Service and have a proof that they got our documents. I insured my documents with Royal Mail for £1000 compensation, but that is not what I am looking for.

A lady on telephone asked me to call a week later.

I checked with her the address where I sent the docs (it was on the envelope they sent to me to put the docs in) and she told me that it is the address of their Head Office. So the address is correct.

I really hope that my documents will be sent back soon. I am ok to way for their decision but my documents are really needed soon Sad

The address on the return envelope is the address of their Head Office - that is what I was told and that is where they check our immigration status.
I hope very much that it is correct information.

Me and few others have also sent the documents and passports to this address.
update - I have spoken to tax credit office yesterday, she said they don't know where my passports are and when they are going to return these back. She then gave me child benefit office number and told me to ring them directly as I send the documents to child benefit office.
I rang child benefit office and the person on phone said why you send the passports to us if the claim was for child tax credit. She took RM tracking number from me but couldnt find it on their system. She said that she will ask the "Back Office" to trace my passport and someone will give me a call back within "5 working days". shambles.

Our situation is just the same.

They said that they did not get our documents. But I have a post office proof that it was delivered. Asked us to call a week later.

Today I got another letter from Child Tax Credit office - asking about our passport to be sent to them by 24.06. Obviously, we are not able to send them and even find out where they are. So we sent the form they asked to fill with explanation - I pray that it will be accepted.

No, problem, thank you, I have that one.
I thought you had another one, which connects directly to the office where we sent out documents.

I just rang them again - good news: my documents were located and will be posted to me soon as we need them really urgently because of travel. The lady on the phone was really helpful.

I do not know how they located my documents.

I was told that normally it takes them about 10 working days to put our documents on the system (after receiving them).
