Hi
Just a quick overview of my current situation:
I am currently on a post-study work visa due to expire Aug 2013 and working for a global company.
I am also due to getting married next year with a British (Asian) national.
Following are my questions
1) Would you advise me to get my company to sponsor me or my fiancée?
My company is willing to sponsor me but this can only be finalised depending on the circumstances closer to time of application (July 2013)
2) If I was to have my fiancée sponsor me, do I need to be registered with the marriage registry and religiously married or only being registered will do?
I ask because my marriage is set for late August 2013 which will be too late to apply as my visa expires middle of August.
Thank you in advance for your assistance. |

The standard course of action should be:
- You keep your current VISA
- Your VISA gets extended or change to different one to stay in the UK with your company
- You get married
- You sponsor your wife and apply for her visa as your dependent
- She comes in the UK to stay with you
- Once you get ILR, you can switch your wife's VISA to a suitable dependent VISA (FLR)
- Once she completes her 5 years as your dependent in the UK, she can apply for ILR
Although I may not be correct. I think this is what you would be planning to achieve _________________ 08/02/2012 - Application submitted to VFS New Delhi

Sorry buddy I read it as Asian National Sorry my bad.
- Extend your current VISA with your employer's sponsorship
- Get Married in the UK (if that is the plan)
- Apply from your home country for a Spouse VISA
Hope this helps. _________________ 08/02/2012 - Application submitted to VFS New Delhi

Hate to say this once again for a reply from harv, but please partially ignore harv's comments.
Now, basically you are the person who can best decide what to do. I can point you to the information.
1. You can apply for tier2, through your sponsors, if they have a ukba sponsorship license and you meet all the other requirements. Check out tier2 info on UKBA website. I am no expert on pbs and do not even know if switching to tier2 is possible from within UK, so do your own research. Later on you can switch to spouse visa from within UK.
2. If your employer is not a licensed sponsor, then above is not the option. Your only way then is to marry and apply before your current psw expires.
Whichever way you do, make sure you are sure of your options, well before your current visa expires. You will be in a puddle if your employer backs out at the last moment. |

You have to legally marry - in the UK that means usually register office or Church of England.
If you marry at the register office, this is the point in time when you are legally married in the eyes of the law/state/UKBA. You can then decide to have a party, no party, a religious ceremony, whatever you like; all of that is of no legal consequence. |
