Hi,

My friend came to UK on student visa(2007 May) and started working part time for few months and stopped working and fully concentrated on studies. He did receive a P45 when he left the place. (Early 2008) But during this time he has changed his residency but he never updated his address details.

Now after few years he is on Spouse visa and started working full time and paying NI and other taxes.
When he joined the new place(early 2012) he has given his new address when filling P45(not sure) and mentioned this is his FIRST job as for the past few years he was not working)

1) Few days back he phoned HRM to find about Working Tax Credit for himself(Spouse Visa) and his Partner(Permanent Resident of UK). He wanted to find out if he is too eligible for Tax credit since his visa says No Recourse to Public Funds).

They said they cannot verify his identity and asked him to bring 2 proof of identity(Passport and Bank Statement) for an interview.

******* QUESTION: WILL HE GET INTO TROUBLE BECAUSE HE HAS NOT UPDATED HIS DETAILS? HE JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE HIS PARTNER GETS THE CREDIT AND NOT INTERESTED IN GETTING BACK "SOMETHING" FOR HIMSELF.

ofcourse no,he will just update it after the interview ,think they picked him for identity interview because the adress he gave them is different from the old one,it takes less than 5 mins for the interview then ,he can use the fone there to change the address but they may not change it till he puts in a claim for tax credit.
