No. You can visit the US for up to 90 days via the visa-waiver program, but cannot work as a visitor. Anything else requires a work permit/visa, etc.

Nope. The company wanting to employ them in the US must to follow the correct procedures of applying for the work visa.

Unfortunately UK citizens receive no special treatment for work permits in the USA.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Actually Australian citizens benefit from a special work permit programme for professionals that makes it a lot easier for Australian citizens to work in the USA. In addition the NAFTA agreement between Canada, the USA and Mexico has provisions that make it easier for professionals from Canada and Mexico to work in the USA compared to citizens of other countries.

In that case then you are forgetting that UK citizens get can work without any restrictions in 26 other EU countries.....
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Funny I should have mentioned outside the EU when I said outside the rest of the world. Of course making full use of the treaty rights.
