Taylondon - I'm struggling to comprehend your news. Can you appeal? I suppose on the positive side your current visa is valid until 2012 so you don't have to leave. (sorry for thinking you were female )

Terriblefish - great news!! Congrats. :D

Oh no that's terrible! I'm sad to hear that. I don't understand why they rejected you, are they saying that you had periods of unlawful stay?

I can't believe they made you wait for this long for a negative outcome!

Now wouldn't that be shocking if I was to say that I wasn't an actual girl.

London101 - that's fabulous news!! It's so good to read some positive news on here. It gives others hope that they too won't have to endure a long wait.

It makes me wonder if there was an issue that held up applications received during August and September due to July apps waiting less than 6 months and a lack of later months in the list. Staffing problems... filing them away in the wrong section... or it could even be that Liverpool has such a huge backlog that 10 year apps are now being directed to Sheffield who are able to process apps quicker..... all very bizarre :?

Dear All,

Although this is my first post here, I found this forum extremely helpful! So thank you all for your comments and advice.

I applied for ILR under the 10 year rule (7 year student and 3 year WP visa) on the 8th January 2010. I received an acknowledgement letter on the 11th of January and money was taken the same day. I have been reading through this topic for the past couple of weeks or so and I came to the conclusion that most seem to be waiting for 6 months or more so I started preparing myself mentally for a very very long wait.

To my surprise however, I received my passport today with ILR granted on the 13th April!! :D I’m not sure if this is important but it was granted in Sheffield. I also received all of my supporting documents which consisted of the following:

Work permit, letter from employer confirming my position, 3 payslips, police registration, university degrees and diplomas, and life in the UK test.

I do understand that most of the above documents were nor required but i thought i’ll enclose them anyway.
Also, my application was in my opinion a straight forward one, less than 18 months abroad, and no gaps (although one of my visas was issued 16 days after the previous one had expired, i did apply for that one by post in time and i enclosed with my application proof of that in the form of a home office confirmation of receipt letter showing that i had applied in time).
Anyway, to sum up, I waited exactly 13.8 weeks which may indicate that not all applications are dealt with in a first come first served basis.

I’ll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have and good luck to anyone who’s still waiting. I hope you don’t hate me for receiving my ILR without going through the undoubtedly painful waiting game that some of you are going through!

L
P.S. You may add my name to the list if you wish and best of luck to all.

Published targets are bullshit. The latest FOI on the net is very clear-the target of 6 months was achieved only in 70% and not in 95% as claimed.
I do agree that whatever u try its of no use..we can just moan about it.is anybody keen for an epetitition.

Ah but under Contacts/What our staff expect ...

We will do our best to provide you with the services you need, when you want them. In return we ask that you:
- do not contact us to ask about the progress of your application unless we have failed to meet published targets;

For all ILR application, apart from premium services, that is 6 months.

Our "long timers" here queried and complained after 6 months and were treated extremely poorly. So to query after 14 weeks you would not be doing yourself or application any favours.

To submit an application in person at one of our public enquiry offices, go to the appointment booking system. Appointments are made available throughout the day. If suitable appointments are not available you should make your application by post, or leave the UK and apply for entry clearance.

If you are phoning to ask about an existing application to extend your stay or to settle in the UK, we can only provide an update if:

â– you applied more than 14 weeks ago under a category that does not require biometric information; or
â– you applied under a category that does require biometric information, and you provided your biometric information more than 14 weeks ago.

Its clear on the ukba website that you can enquire 14 weeks after application.so maybe after 14 week deadline call everyday.Thats all we can do.

where did you hear that we can be enquiring about the progress of application after 3 months? In my acknowledgement letter none of the timeline is mentioned - instead they wrote that I should not disturb them before they will write back to me.
I'm confused too as to where the 3 months has come from. I know that the old timescales used to be 14 weeks/3 months prior to the 6 months SLA being implemented. I applied through a solicitor and queried this through them. Their reply was long term applicants have every right to complain and demand urgent attention to their application after 6 months. Up to then it's best to take the acknowledgement letter at its word and let UKBA be unless it's an urgent query.

However a poster who is having problems with the processing of their payment was told by the UKBA helpline that the "Payment Centre" would only deal with their query after 14 weeks. This could be it.
