If India is united nothing can stop its progress. However, as happened many times in the past, one can predict that internal disputes and quarrels will hold India back.

I dont see much of possibility of that with today's India. India has learnt its lessons hard way but learnt it.

basis,
Its great to see the passion and feeling you have for india.

Although both sides of arguments maybe true to some extent, truth is that dozens of my friends who have been out of india for the last 10-15 yrs are fighting to get back home. mhunjn has a point when he says that the current return is more attractive for the educated professional class cause life as a upwardly mobile professional indian is almost as good in india as abroad. For the people who came abroad & opened corner shops and other such professions are probably better here. So effectively, we are not looking at a reversal in migration, just a reverse-brain-drain !

This bodes lot of thinking for HSMP holders before naturalisation.

I think we are viloently agreeing here......if you look thru messages carefully we are saying the same thing.....I have been always referring to current lot of applicants....those who are already naturalised 5+ years back I dont even consider as part of this discussion. I am talking more of people gettting naturalised recently (fresh corner shop type people are not admitted generally now in the UK - UK has been focussing on managed migration to invite high skilled people of which there is a clear shortage in the UK).

So the discussion is exactly abt the WP holders and HSMP candidates - will they want to continue taking up UK nationality considering economic / career prosperity in India and the fact that India does not allow dual nationality. And the one way we can see that proportionately how many of eligible Indian apply for UK naturalisation....and surprisingly till 2005 it is quite high...I suspect that will reduce over next few years.

Naturalisation in the US is different issue - because with the size of economy the US will always remain in top 3 economies ...not so with European economies like UK, Germany and France etc....

So the new lot which is migrating from India (by default which is highly qualified) will be more and more averse to naturalisation in other countries.

A lot of talk to go to US, Aus, Canada etc because of 5 year ILR rule. For really skilled and enterprising people move eastwards could be an option....
