using this forum to solicit for or promote personal business

Post by Administrator » Fri Dec 01, 2006 3:00 pm

.

Joining this forum to promote your own business or private practice is against our policies, both written and in spirit.

If you want to use a forum to solicit your own clients, please feel free to start-up and maintain your own forum.

Ours is here as a resource for individuals to help each other. Occasionally we step in with our own pointers and advice, and we reserve the right to remind folks that http://www.workpermit.com is the sole sponsor and maintainer of this forum, at our own expense in time and resources.

We allow the occasional posting of competitor websites WHEN SUCH POSTING PROMOTES AND FORWARDS THE TOPIC they are posted within.

Such postings are NOT allowed to advertise competitors.

I should think this goes without saying, but apparantly it requires saying, even after having been said on numerous occasions.

Members, if you are getting PM's to solicit services (as in, trying to get you to be a paying client, as opposed to free and friendly assistance), you are encouraged (not required) to report such activity to the moderators/Admin.

Thank you,

The Admin

OKay, upon noticing a specific case, let me place this clarification in Announcements (it had been posted in topics before, but now it's in a common place for all to see).

• You may not use your *.sig file as an advertising or solicitation mechanism.

• You may not use our private message system (PM's) for advertising or to solicit clients/customers.

Using this forum to solicit clients or to advertise products or services are forbidden activities. It doesn't matter what creative mechanism you think you may use as a loophole, the activities are banned.

And, so will members who abuse this policy.

Thank you,

the Admin

Hi folks --

I was asked today about posting information of job services for members seeking work.

On a trial basis, unless it is abused, we will allow the following for exchange of job information between providers and seekers :

1)

We maintain a job-exchange section of our main website. Not only may you post there, but people looking for work might give you contact opportunities:

http://jobs.workpermit.com/

If you notice anyone abusing the service, please bring it to our attention so that we may maintain it as a high-quality resource. This is not an obligation on your part, just a request.

2)

You may post in our appropriate section for UK:

Immigrationboards.com Forum Index -> Employment and jobs in UK
http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewforum.php?f=5

[ EDIT : - 11 March 2008 -

This forum has now been renamed and moved:

-> Employment offers and job seekers

-- end EDIT ]

Generally we don't allow advertising in the entire set of forums, but this particular one is set aside for community members to connect.

You were kind enough to ask permission. Given that you are not a direct competitor, we will allow discrete advertising. Please don't create many topics every week only to promote yourself.

Later, if there is a demand for world-wide job information exchange, make a few requests and we may create a forum for outside the UK ... or, rather, maybe we will change the name & location of the UK forum to be more inclusive.

3)

You are allowed to mention your service during the course of participating in topics.

Generally, a number of professionals participate in our forum here. As part of normal interaction in our topics, all are allowed to mention who they are and what services they participate in.

People may post website URL's generally if they promote the topic.

We encourage people to contribute to our community here, so please participate and feel free to sometimes post URL's and discuss your expertise.

If you see members looking for job assistance, you are quite welcome to respond publicly with assistance and contact information.

What we don't want to see :

Direct competitors attempting to poach clients from our primary business will be banned. We allow URL's that provide resources to our community here, even if they are from competitors, so long as it is part of promoting the topic with substance.

We have several competitors who have stolen copyrighted materials from us and use them to promote their business; all mention of those competitors is deleted as soon as it is noticed and members are warned privately not to continue posting for those competitors.

Please do not post your website in your signature file. We used to allow it, but it was being abused.

Do not create topics strictly for promotion of your website/service ... although, if you have specific job openings you wish to mention, maybe once a week post the top ten opportunities with contact information in a single post (use URL in point 2).

Please respond to members with public content that is of value to the entire community. For example "Contact me" as the content of the response isn't entirely polite.

And, actually, a fourth opportunity if you wish (for job service providers) :

http://www.workpermit.com/contact_us.htm

You may call our London Office and discuss specific cooperation if you have a proposal.

There are several links on that page if they are along the lines of something you might wish.

"Administrator" here is a technical / web administration position. I can help you contact individuals within workpermit.com if you are interested, but I probably cannot answer specific questions beyond what I've posted here.

Thanks for joining! Please enjoy our community. We remain open to suggestions and feedback.
