Applying for a British passport from within the UK for a child born and currently living abroad

Post by SammyLondon » Sun Feb 15, 2026 8:18 pm

Hello,

I am a British citizen by naturalisation. I have a child who was born outside the UK after I became a British citizen and is now around one year old. The mother isn't British and lives aborad with the child.

My understanding is that the child is automatically a British citizen. I would like to apply for a British passport for them from within the UK. Is this possible?

I have tried the online application form, which appears to treat the child as if they are applying from overseas. One of the questions asks for their address and indicates that the passport would need to be collected from a neighbouring country (since there's no office in the country itself).

I am currently living and working in the UK and looking to apply on their behalf, so I would prefer to apply from within the UK and receive or collect the passport here. However, based on how the online form is structured, I am unsure whether this is possible.

Could anyone advise?
