Can I submit IELTS result later

Post by smshoaibs » Sun May 30, 2010 1:52 pm

Hi, I am a Pakistani National, registered for IELTS exam on 5th June 2010. I want to know can I apply for Canada immigration now and submit result once it is available?

According to this link.. seems like that I have to wait for my IELTS result before I can apply for canada.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department ... -03-10.asp

Can anyone confirm please?

There are two stages for submitting documents. In each stage you must submit only what is requested.

The first stage is to send application to Nova Scotia. You should download the document checklist from:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informatio ... killed.asp

As far as I can tell, they are not requesting IELTS at this stage. But read the checklist to verify. If you dont need to send IELTS at this stage, then you may apply before taking the exam.

The second stage is when the CHC request addition documents, At this stage you must send your IELTS results along with everything else they ask for.

Thanks Raymasa2,

In the checklist " IMM5612E " it is not mentioned that I should submit my IELTS result, but in " imm0008_3e-Economic Class " point number 6, They ask you to provide a copy of approved test result.

What should I do?

You can send an email to CHC, but usually they dont reply, but worth a try. Its better to send the results, but you have an issue of the list possibly changing. If that wasn't the case, I would recommend that you wait for the results.

However, if you wait and the ,list changes and your occupation is removed you wont qualify, on the other hand if you send the application they may (not necessarily, but may) reject the application if they don't think you have enough points.

How many points do you have without the language criteria?

56 without language points. but I am sure I will score 12 points in IELTS test i.e
7 band in 2 sections = 8 points
6 band in 2 sections = 4 points

Thats is a big enough difference that may risk your application without including the IELTS results.

Here is what I have seen from others. But please understand that in the absences of official word from CHC, all of this may or may not be true.

- Some are of the opinion that IELTS is not needed at stage one (when you send the application to Nova Scotia). However, I have also seen some getting rejected by CHC without being asked to submit other documents in stage two. So there is a risk.

- While we dont know when and what the changes will be in the new occupation list, some are indicating that the list may not be released until September. If that is true (and I stress if), that would give you time. But again, no one knows when the list will be released and what the changes will be. If its released before you are able to get your application in and the new list does not include your occupation, you are risking it.

Perhaps, if money is not a major issue, apply now. If they reject it without IELTS, you lost money. If they accept your application in the fist stage without IELTS, you are safe. So the risk is with money. I suppose that's the best I can tell you.

I think you have two risks. One is lost money if you apply now (and if rejected, which you may or may not be). The other is lost opportunity to get to Canada is your occupation is taken off the list.

I cant really give you any suggestions as this is a bit of a difficult situation. Hope you find the answer.

Best wishes.

Thanks Ray,

I really appreciate your response and it gives me the direction.. :) Money is not a big problem I can manage a loss of few hundred dollars.

Just in case if they refuse my case (because of not submitting IELTS score) Can I re apply next day? provided that the Occupation list is not changed and I have my IELTS result.

Can I apply twice? Once without IELTS and then just after getting IELTS result without waiting for decision on first case? WIll CIC entertains request to cancel first application and consider the second one?

As long as you can proof 67 (or more) points you should be ok.

Yes you can reapply the next day of you like. But I am not sure if you can have two similar application. You can have two different applications (e.g. FSW and student) but I dont know if you can have two FSW applications at the same time.

You can request cancelling one application if its in stage 1 (i.e. at Nova Scotia), but to cancel the application you need a reference number, which takes a few weeks (sometimes couple of months).
