A colleague applied for her baby's dependant VISA:

Category - VISA for a baby born in UK

1. Date of expiry of current leave (visa): N/A
2. Date of posting applications using Next Day Delivery: 04 Aug 2010
3. Date application fee was debited: Paid by Postal Orders
5. Date when Acknowledgment letter with UKBA reference number received: No Ackw received
6. Date from which Tier 1 general visa valid: 25 Aug 2010
7. Date passport received : 27 Aug 2010

As UKBA website does not provide separate waiting time for dependant applications, I assume the above could provide an indication of processing times for the (well almost) main applicants as well.

As I have seen confusions among the forum members whether to send main applicant's passport with dependent application, just to let you know I sent the following document,

1) PBS Dependent application form
2) Baby's passport and 2 copies of photographs
3) Baby's birth certificate
4) 3 months bank statement
5) Tier 1 Approval letter received by the main applicant

and nothing else.

2. Date of posting application & method: 25th October by Royal Mail special delivery
3. Date application fee was debited, if known: 26th October, by credit card
4. Date when Acknowledgment letter with UKBA reference number received: None
5. Visa stamped on: 29th Dec, at the Sheffield Office
6. Date passport received: 4th Jan 2011 by Royal mail special delivery

The home office took an astonishing 9 and a half weeks to decide the application for a 2 month old!!!! I had to cancel my tickets, and will be booking again soon Sad

A tip for future applicants, just go for in-person appointment, applying by post is not worth the hassle.
