change in current company name

Post by rkc » Thu Jun 22, 2006 3:47 am

Hi,

I still have 2-3 days to go before I send in my application, so before that I had an urgent query:

I joined my current employer in 2004. In 2005, my company shares were bought by another company resulting in a new name for my company. The reference letter provided by my HR manager is on the letter head reflecting the new name although the experience is mentioned since 2004. All my company records also show that I joined in 2004 and my employer confirmed that in case of verification from immigration authorities, they will confirm that I am with them since 2004. Also, as a result of the company buy-out, I did not have to tender my resignation or anything and no new offer letters were issued. This buy-out was just a shares buy-out and the management also did not change. WOuld it be helpful to mention this buy-out and the previous name on the cover-letter (as of now, I have not mentioned anything about the old name of the company)? Anyone been in a similar situation? Any inputs appreciable here.

regards

Just to make sure that this is a mere change of name, go to the Companies House website and click on Webcheck. Enter the current company name. You should get through to a screen detailing any previous name of that company. If you do find that, suggest you print it as proof that you really are employed by the same Limited Company.

Hi John,

Thank you very much for the link! My company's current name is indeed registered there and in the previous names list it also lists the old name of the company. Infact, even my previous company is registered on this site. So, I will just take print out of both and enclose it along with the application without explicitly mentioning anything about the name change.

Btw, this looks to be an official UK government site? Wondering whether the HSMP team also use it for verifying companies?

Indeed that is exactly what it is! All companies, limited or unlimited, need to be registered at Companies House.

Not sure if the HSMP team would use it? But it is there as a public facility for all to use whenever they want.

Yes, the HSMP team uses it. It's mentioned in the guidelines in the section for people who are applying as self-employed in the UK.
