Accepted to study in London- boyfriend wants to come with me

Post by loderka » Sat Jul 31, 2010 3:13 pm

I have been accepted to study in London for two years and my boyfriend just graduated from Lund University (Lund, Sweden) masters program. He has a 1 year visa to work in Sweden and we both are from the USA. His one year visa starts next month. We want to go to London together and he wants to find a job but until then he would like to apply as my dependent( co-habitant). How do we do this? Does his working visa in sweden work in the UK? When applying as a dependent are you able to work in the UK? Is it hard to get someone to sponsor you for a working visa if you just graduated from a master program in europe and you are from the USA? If you could please help me decipher what the best way to go about this is.

Love,
kathryn

Kathryn, the dependant is allowed to work, but first ... how long have the two of you lived together?

There is no limit on the number of hours the dependant is allowed to work.

Good to see that the two of have lived together for at least two years. Shorter than two years and he would not have been issued with a dependent visa.

i was reading up on how much he should have in his bank account 28 days prior to applying. What exactly is the amount when my school is based in wimbledon? Also, what documents do i have to show to prove that we have been living together for 2 years? One place he is on the contract and i have bank statements showing that my mail was going there(we were living together and splitting rent). is that ok?
