To Address in Cover Letter

Post by krishna1215 » Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:51 am

Hi,
Is To Address in Cover Letter mandatory. I am using a format in one of the Cover letters posted online.

I would be applying from ireland, but not sure whether this is right.

(Do all applications go to UK or they processed in the Country candidate has applied. for Eg in Ireland we have UK embassy in Dublin)

To,
The UK Border Agency
Tier 1 (General)
PO Box 496
Durham - DH99 1WQ
United Kingdom

Your application will be processed in Ireland, and you should write UK embassy in Ireland's address here.

Hi Mvent,
Is it necessary to submit my degree certificate too along with Masters degree.

The reason I am asking is because where ever I saw for English language requirement its said as

Degree taught in english.

So When I am claiming points should i say "Masters thought in english" and its approved by PBS caclulator (my masters as well as english language)

If your masters is listed in PBS, it is understood to be in english. Just submit Original Master's Degree. You can submit Bachelors or Masters to demonstrate english eligibility.

Yes, as Chetanojha has mentioned, if you can claim 10 points for English language section in PBS calculator, because of your master or bachelor's degree, you can submit that degree as an English language proof.

Hi Chetana and Mvent,

Degree is no more approved in PBS. If you check it allots you 0 points for education. I suppose only masters is considered.

Why do they keep saying Degree is taught in english. Its supposed to be Masters taught in english . Isnt it ?

Are you talking about claiming points for "Qualifications" or "English Language" section??

Please keep following points in mind:

1- It is possible that you can claim points for "Qualifications" for one degree on PBS calculator, but for the same degree no points for English language, and vice versa. These are two different issues.

2- You can only claim points for Qualification, if you have UK level Master or PhD degree.

3- You can only claim points for English Language, if your degree awards you 10 points for English in PBS calculator.

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/pointscalculator
From Points-based calculator - your attributes points total is XYZ
English language
In this section, you must score ten points for your English language skills at the time of application or your application will be refused.

If you are from a majority English speaking country you can automatically claim ten points for English language skills.

If you are not from a majority English speaking country, you can claim points either for an English language test or a degree taught in English equivalent to a bachelor's degree or above in the United Kingdom.

How would you like to claim points for English language skills?
- I am a national from a majority English speaking country
- I have a qualification that was taught in English select it and see if your education qualify or not?.
- I have passed an approved English language test
- I do not want to claim points for English language skills (your application will be refused)

Hi Mvent,
What I was trying to tell u is Degree Certificate is no more recognized. For eg I had done Bachelors. when u select it allots 0 points

IN the website it says "Degree thought in English". What I meant is it should say "Masters thought in English".

For eg : I selected MSC (IT ) India and University then I got points alloted . Later I went to english language. I could select a radio button (if u cant select it they say ur not qualified for egnlish language). So it alloted points for english language too .

So what I meant was its Masters qualification which made it possible for me to pass the english skills requirement but not my Bachelors degree.

So it should have been "masters thought in english "...

"Degree taught in English", is a generalized term. Because, if someone has Bachelor degree from UK, or equivalent to UK's Bachelor degree for English language, it will award 10 points. "Master taught in English", will not be valid then 8) .
