Admission in Universities in the United Kingdom

Post by nsm2010 » Sat Jul 06, 2024 5:19 pm

Back in 2022 whole of our family received our British passports, including my 15-year-old son who is attending local school and in year 10.
Recently I received a wonderful job offer from the Middle East. what I would like to know is, if I accept the offer and relocate myself (with my family including my son), what chances of my son would be in future to get admission in British Universities as British? Will he be considered an International student or a British Student?

He needs to reside in the UK for 3 years before getting home student fees.

With some exceptions, students must be ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK on the first day of the first academic year of their course and for the three years before that date. The three-year residency rule applies to UK nationals who have been living abroad (see below for an exception for UK nationals living in Europe).

As a general rule, UK policies are heavily oriented towards residence in UK. Mere British citizenship with no residence in the UK (such as if you got it by descent and never actually lived in the UK) does not amount for much more than the right to return to the UK without a visa and the right to reside and work here.

Note that even the NHS is not free for British citizens not ordinarily resident in the UK, who can be charged on the same basis as visitors (150% of costs).
