Hi all. I am a South African born in SA and living in SA, however am greek by heritage and likewise British ancestry. I am wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction as to how to go about applying for ancestral rather than EU heritage.
Reason I ask this is because both my parents are born in Zambia & Zimbabwe (Northern & Southern Rhodesia @ the time) and their parents born there too, and then there parents born in Wales & Greece.
We have no documents other than an unabridged birth certificate of my grandfathers to say that his father was born in Greece. This is due to the fact being when they left Greece there had been an Earthquake that had destroyed most of Kefalonia which was where he was registered as an EU national.
Also, we have no documents to prove that my grandmothers mother was born in Wales as these documents have been lost from being passed on to generation and then on to generation.
I have been reading in a "London 4Starters" guide published 2005, that quoting "You must have a British-Born grandparent. On the basis of this tie, you can apply for four years unrestricted living and owkring in the UK (Or at least less restricted than a two year visa). If you have parental ties with any of the following countries, an ancestral visa may be worth to have a look at: Swaziland, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia or Botswana" If that be the case, could I look at applying for an ancestral visa through my grandparents who were Zambia & Zimbabwean (Northern & Southern Rhodesia) born??
I would really appreciate the help. Thanks, Nick
