Another child benefit query

Post by parker_knoll » Wed Jun 08, 2011 7:46 pm

hi

This is my first post. I have read a lot of posts on the board but i'm still unclear and would appreciate some specific advice.

I am a British citizen, born and raised in the UK. I have a two year old son who is also a British citizen, though born in Serbia.

I have been together with his mother for more than 5 years though we are still unmarried. Our intention is now to move to the UK so we plan to get married, either in Britain or in Serbia, it doesn't matter which.

I'm wondering if there is anything preventing me claiming child benefit for my son, plus potentially working families tax credit (if it still exists). Would that have an impact on my partner's "recourse to public funds" given that it is me claiming on behalf of my son who is a full British citizen?

I work but on a rather low income. My partner is Serbian by nationality.

Many thanks if anyone can help.

This is simple
U r a british citizen and ur son too.
U should have applied for child benefit, child tax credit and working tax credit when he was born as you are on low income. As i did the same mistake by nt applying. Make sure u apply for it not your wife. To do this you and your son should be in uk.
