Apply for Naturalization - advice

Post by devdp » Sat May 07, 2011 4:25 pm

My ILR letter shows date 24th May 2010 - which means I am eligible to apply for Naturalization on/after 24th May 2011

My wife and family arrived later so their ILR letter is backdated to 30th Sept 2010 - so I guess they will be able to apply on/after 30th Sept 2011.

Would it make sence for me to apply after 24th May 2011 and once I have completed the process - apply for my wife/daughter under the spose/dependent of British citizen - or do I need to wait till Oct 2011 to apply all together?

Also, will my wife/daughter (13 yrs old - born in india) need to sit for the life in UK test?

If my wife applies with me in Oct 2011 does she need to submit refferees also? does she need to submit refferees if she applies under the wife of British citizen separately ?

Does my daughter need to submit refferees also if I apply with my papers in Oct 2011 ? does she need to submit refferees if she applies under the dependent of British citizen separately?

can someone please advice?

thanks in advance
D

On what date did your wife and daughter arrive in the UK?

1. If you wait until such time that your wife becomes eligible for naturalisation (on / after 30-Sep-11) and apply for naturalisation together (joint application) then you'll save money.
2. Your born-abroad child may apply for registration as British citizen under section 3(1) of British Nationality Act (registration subject to discretion). This application cannot be made before either parent applies for naturalisation.
3. Every applicant requires references from two people. Read the relevant guide(s) and form(s) for detailed information.

Devdp,

Can you please throw some light on the backdated ILR letter. I obtained my ILR today and I have also been given such letter, backdating my ILR to June 2010. I wasn't expecting this as I thought I am April-Nov 06 applicant originally. I tried to clarify with the caseworker and she checked on her system and informed me that I qualified in June 2010.

I just want to ensure that I can apply for Naturalisation with this letter.

Thanks
