Apply for spouse visa directly after marriage

Post by ibzo » Thu Dec 29, 2011 3:10 pm

Hello all,

I am a british citizen and want to marry an Iraqi woman. I think I have all the required things for the application e.g. job, accommodation, etc.
Me and my fiance are planning to meet up in Jordan to get an official marriage done and apply from there as Iraqi citizens cannot apply from Iraq.

My question is, is it fine for us to get a marriage certificate and apply directly afterwards? We have been in contact since september and have a lot of online details which prove we have been in contact but we will meet in person for the first time in Jordan (hopefully in Feb, after i get my certificat of no impediment to marry), get the marriage certificate and apply. Is this acceptable, or do the ECO require us to be married for a long time.

Any other tips you have for me, as there seems to be a lot of people who have had successful experiences and any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Yes that's fine. In fact when there is a delay between marriage and application, like in my case, i have been told an explanation should be included detailing reasons for the delay.
