Applying for British Citizenship with Expired Passport and BRP

Post by fahima25 » Mon Oct 27, 2025 8:53 pm

Hi everyone,

I currently have Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and I’m preparing to apply for British citizenship. However, my Sri Lankan passport has expired, and my BRP card also expired in December 2024.

I have already created a UKVI account to prove my immigration status.

Could someone please confirm:

Do I need a valid passport to apply for naturalisation?

Can I use my expired BRP card for the biometrics appointment, or will I need to use an alternative ID?

Thank you in advance for any guidance.

Definitely a yes for the first question. You can use a driving license or other photo ID for the biometric appointment, not sure if an expired BRP is suitable. Other members may advise.
