Applying for naturalisation and child registration without the other parent's consent

Post by tinhatin » Tue Jul 14, 2020 8:42 pm

I would really appreciate your help. I am a single parent. My child and I have citizenship in an EU country and the child was born there as well. We now qualify to apply for the naturalisation and registration of my child. I have all the documents but the other parent (we are divorced) doe snot agree. What are the chances of the child getting registered as a British citizenship without the other parent's consent. They are not in contact much and the marriage fell apart because of domestic violence. This is the reason the other parent refuses to agree - controlling behaviour. The child can otherwise have a dual citizenship. Can I make a case referring to domestic abuse, etc and stand a chance of getting a successful application?

Do you have the sole custody of the child? or any court document etc?

As of my understanding both parents have to sign but IF one parent can not sign the form asks the reason for that.

I am assuming if you have sole custody of the child, it may be easier but wait for other experts to respond.
