Applying for spousal visa from WP

Post by wjeffs » Mon Dec 22, 2008 5:58 pm

Hi, i am currently on a 5 yr work permit and have completed 3 years so far. I got married to my lovely wife in June 2008 and have not as yet changed to a spousal visa. just a few questions if anyone can help, not sure which way is best to follow.

1. does the spousal visa invalidate my work permit?
2. is it 4 yrs, 4 yrs &11 mths or 5 yrs requires to apply for ILR on a WP?
3. to apply for a spousal visa is it FLR that i need to apply for as i am settled and living in the UK and can i apply in person?
4. what is the cost to apply for necessary visa?

Thanx in advance for any assistance.

Subject to the laws in place at the time and assuming that your wife is British or settled:

1. Switching to FLR(M) (285) will invalidate your work permit status. But it allows you to work for any employer who do not require ILR or citizenship.

2.

You must not send us your application more than 28 days before the end of your qualifying period. If you do, we may refuse your application with no refund of the fee. However, you must make your application before your current permission to stay in the United Kingdom expires.
3. FLR(M) (285) and subsequently SET(M) (288); yes.

4. Costs.
