Applying for Visa for Aunt to Visit Sick Grandmother

Post by Star_Light » Tue Mar 21, 2006 10:11 pm

My aunt lives in Egypt and we would like to bring her over here to visit her mother. My grandmother (a British citizen since Birth) has not seen her daughter for over 30 years and my grandmother is now too ill to travel. My question is how do we apply for a visa for my aunt to visit my grandmother in the UK. My aunt does not have sufficient funds to pay for the visit so I willl be funding her trip, I have a good job and own property. I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks in Advance.

Your aunt will need to use form VAF1 to make the visa application. That application should be supported by documentation from you to confirm that you will pay for the air fares and for your aunt's stay in the UK. Also include some documentary evidence to show that you can afford to meet that expenditure.

Absolutely no harm in mentioning your grandmother and her state of health.

Your aunt should also provide something to cover "reason to return" to Egypt. That is, convince the ECO looking at the application that we really are just talking about a short-term visit here.

Thank you for your prompt reply, my mum is going to Egypt this weekend to help apply for a visa for my Aunt. My Aunt is separated from her Egyptian husband and my aunt's daughter lives with him, is this sufficient evidence to show she will be returning to the country as she does not have a job to show ties, but has family ties there.

Don't overlook the need to show "reason to return". Does the aunt have any property in Egypt? That might help.

That is, stand back from this just a moment, you are now the ECO looking at the visa application! How convinced are you that the person will return and not attempt to stay in the UK? Provide what evidence you can to assist the ECO getting over that point.

Show medical evidence about your grandmother's condition, if you can.
