Applying from the US Application Questions

Post by pred02 » Tue Sep 15, 2009 12:56 am

Hi,
I am a US national and am applying for the Tier 1 visa with Appendix 1 (General Migrant). I have the necessary points but have a few general application questions.

Appendix 1 Questions:

Part 4: Previous Earnings Assessment

I have obtained a certified letter from my employer stating my income for the 12 month period as required. I would also like to submit copies of my bank statements for that period. I request copies of the bank statements which indicate the direct deposit to my current account, however as my bank is an Internet Bank they only provide printouts (not in color). They sent me the printouts for last 12 months, however they are the same as the online version. As they are an internet bank they do not have hardcopies or copies in color. Will this present a problem?

As an alternative I requested copies of the Paystubs from my employer, however they are also printouts as my employer keeps everything in a Human Resource computer and there are no original paystubs.

My US tax return was filed online and the 1099 form (for 2008) I have scanned and destroyed (we live in a paperless age, or at least try to).

I am afraid that if I do not provide bank statements, pay stubs, or other documents on original bank letterhead it may present a problem.

Personal Assessment questions:

Question 6.2: I have studied twice in the UK (one time for 1 year and therefore have a visa) however I have also vistited the UK a dozen or so times just for a short duration (from 1 day to a week). Do I need to look at all the times in the last 10 years and list them out? Do I need to provide an appendix as I cannot fit all the times I visited the UK in the small box.

Part 7: (Additional Information): What should I state here, why do I want to come to the UK or just say that I was always lawful citizen, never dodged a visa, etc?

I appreciate everyone's response.

Kind regards

Reference the paystubs, you can have your employer re-print them and sign them along with the company stamp and a letter confirming they are genuine.

The lack of stamped/letterheaded bank statements will be a bigger problem, as there isn't really a way around it.

As evidence of salaried employment you have to submit bank statements, and these statements should either be on official bank stationary. If they are internet printouts, they should be stamped/signed OR be accompanied with a letter confirming they are genuine.

See this page for further info: Tier 1 (General) Policy Guidance page 25 of 49

Regarding the UK visits, please mention your trips as a student on the table and then provide the appendix to list out all other trips. It is better to list out all available information, as any information not provided can be easily interpreted as deception.

The additional information can be used as an appendix if you like. You don't really need to write an essay about how you are a law abiding citizen, as that is assumed anyway. You can also use this section to explain any parts of your application which may require additional info to be understood.

Will you be submitting your application to an embassy in America? If yes, I would advise speaking to them if there is a way around the online statements issue and if you get a positive reply, have it documented.

I would imagine that they would be a lot more lenient with an American trying to enter the country than with someone from Asia or Africa.
Please do not send me any Private Messages as I do not check these.

Thank you for your prompt response. I am in the process from collecting the letters from my employers and banks.

One more quick question pertaining to General Visa Application, Part 6, Previous Application and Travel History.

Question 6.8: Have you made an application to the Home Office to remain in the UK in the last 10 years?

I had a UK student visa in 2004-2005 for my masters course at a UK university. Does this qualify as an application or should I indicate no?

I have not applied for HSMP nor any other UK work visa. Other visas were student, transit, and tourist visas (mostly just stamps).

Thanks!
