Applying to work/live in the UK under spouse' ancestry visa

Post by Vicn » Fri Jan 02, 2009 8:23 pm

Dear all,

My husband and I are from New Zealand and he is eligible for a UK Ancestry visa. He has not yet applied for it as we aren't in New Zealand at the moment. I understand I can apply to live and work in the UK as his wife but I have a question regarding to when I should apply:

Can I apply for the visa at the same time as my husband or must I wait until his visa is approved?

The UK high commision in NZ unfortunately does not clarify this on their website and neither does the UK border agency. However, I have seen several immigration services stating that we can apply together. for example,

http://www.spammer.com/en/uk_ancestry ... q.asp#faq3

I don't know how reliable this is though. Does anyone here have experiencein applying to enter the UK as the spouse of someone who is eligible for the UK ancestry visa?

Thank you.

I am in the same situation. For some reason it seems extremely difficult to get a straight answer from anyone about the spouse of an ancestry visa applicant.

What I have learned is..

YES. You can and SHOULD apply at the same time, and you have to apply from your commonwealth country of citizenship.

I have to move back to Canada from USA to apply.

I just received an email from www.ukvisas.gov.uk in reply to me asking which form my spouse fills out and it seems he fills out the same form VAF2 and it's the same fee as my ancestry visa.

My questions are:

How much money is reasonable to show that I can support us?
Will we really be refused if we have a 6 month sublet with a roommate?
Can we continue to be self-employed or does one or both of us have to seek employment?
