Are you employed?

Post by fata1970 » Sun Oct 06, 2024 5:16 pm

Hi all,
I got stuck on this question.. Are you currently employed?
No sure how to answer:

I am not officially employed anywhere. I own properties and I manage it myself. I don't have a Ltd company, all properties are under my own/spouse name. How would be best to answer this?

I was thinking to either:
1- Answer "No, not employed". The issue with this is that I had few trips to EU searching/viewing properties; i.e. my reasons for trip outside UK would be Business
OR
2- Tick "self employed" and put my name and "managing my properties" in the address fields and my postal code. Leave the tax ID field blank (not sure if mandatory to answer) or put my NIN/UTR

Any suggestions?????

You are applying for naturalisation?

Don't confuse things ....

1. Your absence declaration is for assessing that you are within the allowed absence levels, irrespective of the purpose of trips, leisure or work/emplyment.
2. If you are self-employed how are you dealing with your tax? Are you registered as self-employed? Doesn't need to be a limited company. You would be asked to provide your self-assessment returns. Provide your NI number and UTR if the only tax reference.
3. Alternatively you if you are neither you can declare as "unemployed", that's not an issue
4. Employment or other economic activity is not a requirement for naturalisation.
