Is attending a conference eligible for Business visa?

Post by lymisme » Wed Aug 15, 2007 7:39 pm

Hiya All

I need to go to Germany for a conference on 10-14 Sep. Today I called german embassy and foiund that the next available Visa appointment is 20th SEP!!!!

So I booked a "business visa" appointment instead. I am wondering whether I am eligible for a business visa?

If not, is there anyway that I can BUY an appointment for the visa application. I was told that some people book an appointment for 5 people and sell it for those who is in a hurry.

This is my first post in this forum so I hope it is not against the forum regulation. Thanks

A business visit visa will require various company documents both from the company that you work for and for the company that you are visiting in Germany. If you are not visiting a company but are just going to a conference then a business visit visa is probably not appropriate or necessary. Just an ordinary tourist visa will do.

You can't buy an appointment from someone else at any Schengen embassy (at least not in the UK). All appointments booked are linked to someone's name and passport number are non-transferable. Furthermore the only people who are allowed to make block-bookings are families (for example a mother, father and 2 children).

Unfortunately you will just have to miss your conference and learn the hard lesson that many in this forum have had to learn about Schengen visas: book your appointment well in advance of your trip!
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Every embassy is different, but I once successfully applied for a "business visa" from the Belgian embassy for a 3 day conference. Everything was paid for by my UK sponsor but the embassy people didn't seem to mind and I got 6 months multiple entry. That was ages ago though, in those days when one had to queue up from 7am in front of the embassy!
